Questions! We Get Questions!

(Originally published 03/12/08)

I truly have enjoyed your comments on the "How I Got to Be Me" series although some of them make me blush. I have never thought of any of this as extraordinary. It's just me doing my job: getting through whatever God decides to throw my way as best I can. (In my next life I'm gonna learn to duck instead of letting Him use me for target practice!) A lot of you have asked questions about the "How I Got to Be Me" series. Most will be answered in future installments. However, there are some I'd like to answer here.

* Yes, Jo, I was assessed by a speech therapist (and every other kind of therapist they could think of) and I checked out fine -- shutting me up will take more than that! LOL! The problem with reading was my limited attention span and that went away quite fast. Talking on the phone bugged me greatly for some reason for a while and that went away, too.

* As to the misdiagnosis, stroke wasn't something they looked for in healthy 31-year-old women thirty years ago. The advances in the technology re: stroke since mine occurred are phenomenal and if it's caught in time residual effects are very minimal and full recovery is possible.

* They never ascertained the reason for my stroke, which according to my neurologists, was the case in about 30% of all strokes at that time. In recent years, there have been studies that have shown a relatively high incidence of stroke among people who have sustained severe head/neck trauma. That would indicate that my stroke could well have been related to my fractured neck. Another possibility mentioned was that could have been a blood clot and it dissolved quickly after it did its damage. It's one of those mysteries of life and I don't worry too much about it any more.

In the next installments, I'll be telling y'all about my recovery, which was quite an adventure, and a few problems that arose.

Thank you all for your kind words and awesome support! To borrow a line from the late, great Cab Calloway . . . I love you madly!

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kay
